(2) Ralph E(leazer) W(hiteside) Earl
(b 17858; d 1838). Son of (1) Ralph Earl. After his fathers death, he continued to paint portraits in the same manner in the Connecticut River Valley as well as in Troy, NY, where his mother had settled. In 1809 he went to London, where he received encouragement from Benjamin West and John Trumbull. He moved to Norwich in 1810, living with his mothers family and receiving support from Colonel John Money, who had earlier been a patron of his father. Four years later, he travelled to Paris, and he returned to America in December 1815.
