Dubois[-Pillet], (Louis-Auguste-)Albert

(b Paris, 28 Oct 1846; d Le Puy, 18 Aug 1890). French painter and army officer. He pursued a military career at the Ecole Impériale Militaire at Saint-Cyr, from which he graduated in 1867. He fought in the Franco-Prussian War (1870–71) and was held prisoner in Westphalia by the Germans; upon release he joined the Versailles army and participated in the suppression of the Commune. Following various assignments in the provinces, in late 1879 he was appointed to the Légion de la Garde Républicaine in Paris.
