(2) Ippolito del Donzello
(b ?Florence, c. 1456; d Florence or Naples, 1494). Brother of (1) Pietro del Donzello. He trained with Neri di Bicci c. 146973 in Florence and is documented there in 1485. He went to Naples, probably in 1488, at the request of Guiliano da Maiano (see MAIANO, DA, (1)) to work on the decoration of the villa at Poggio Reale (from 1487; destr. late 18th century), which Giuliano had designed for the Duke of Calabria (later Alfonso II, King of Naples). Ippolitos frescoes there (destr.) included a battle scene and numerous portraits. Many works in Naples are assigned to him, but none is secure.
