(3) Thomas Anthony Devis
(b London, 15 Sept 1757; d 28 Sept 1810). Son of (1) Arthur Devis. He entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1773. From 1775 to 1779 he exhibited at the Free Society, in 1777 at the Society of Artists and between 1782 and 1788 at the Royal Academy. His few known works are portraits, for example Thomas Henry Bund and William Bund (sold London, Christies, 29 March 1935, lot 67, see Waterhouse, 18th-C., p. 110); these show that while he maintained the directness of his fathers work, he never managed to achieve his sophistication. The lists of his exhibited works include landscapes and copies from Old Masters (untraced).
