Demio [de Mio; Fratina; Fratini; Fratino; Visentin], Giovanni

(b Schio, c. 1510; d ?Cosenza, c. 1570). Italian painter and mosaicist. He is first recorded in 1537 collaborating with Vincenzo Bianchini (1517–63) on mosaic work in S Marco, Venice, and he also worked as a mosaicist in 1538 and 1539 in the Camposanto, Pisa. In the Martyrdom of St Lawrence (Torrebelvicino, Vicenza, parish church), possibly an early work, his style reflects not only the Tuscan Mannerism of Giorgio Vasari and Francesco Salviati, both of whom Demio had probably met in Venice in 1542, when he was still working at S Marco, but also the Tusco–Roman manifestation of the style as seen in the work of Salviati, Jacopino del Conte (1510–98), Pirro Ligorio and Battista Franco in the oratory of S Giovanni Decollato, Rome.
