Belgian family of painters. (1) Ferdinand the elder was an immensely successful painter of humorous genre scenes of contemporary life. He also depicted episodes from the lives of the great 17th-century Flemish and Dutch painters. Two of his 13 children were painters, Ferdinand the younger (1828–57) and (2) Henri, who was one of the first Belgian Realist painters. The following members have entries:
