Crespi (ii).

Italian family of artists and writers. The painter and printmaker (1) Giuseppe Maria Crespi was the most original Bolognese artist of his time, producing religious, mythological and genre works, these last being particularly innovative. Of his four sons, Antonio Crespi (1712–81) and (2) Luigi Crespi assisted their father in his later years and adopted his style. Luigi was also a writer, producing, among other works, a collection of biographies of his father and various contemporary Bolognese artists.
