Cradock, Marmaduke [Luke]
(b Somerset, c. 1660; d London, bur 24 March 1717). English painter. He was self-taught and worked mostly for dealers, producing paintings of exotic birds and animals in landscape settings, frequently with Classical ruins, much in the manner of Peter Casteels. Works ascribed to Cradock often appear in the sale-rooms, but signed paintings are rare; one such is Exotic Fowl (New Haven, CT, Yale Cent. Brit. A.).
