Cooghen, Leendert van der
(b Haarlem, 9 May 1632; d Haarlem, 1681). Dutch draughtsman, etcher and painter. From a well-to-do Haarlem family, he became an artist for pleasure. After studies with Jacob Jordaens in Antwerp, in 1652 he entered the Guild of St Luke in Haarlem. He made mainly drawings, including, early in his career, copies after the figure paintings by Salomon de Bray at Huis ten Bosch in The Hague. A few etchings and paintings are also known by him (e.g. the Caravaggesque oil on canvas of Doubting Thomas, 1654; The Hague, Mauritshuis).
