(b Qiantang [modern Hangzhou] Zhejiang Province, AD 596; d Aizhou, northern Annam [now Vietnam], AD 658). Chinese calligrapher, scholar, connoisseur and high official. Considered one of the Three Great Calligraphers of the Early Tang (see CHINA, §VI, 2(iii)(a)), along with Ouyang Xun and Yu Shinan (AD 558 638).
