(2) José Camarón Meliá
(b Segorbe, 1760; d Madrid, 1819). Painter and draughtsman, son of (1) José Camarón y Boronat. His training began in his fathers studio and continued at the Academia de S Carlos, Valencia. In 1778 his name appears in the minutes of the Real Academia de S Fernando, Madrid, where in 1779 he competed for a scholarship to Rome. From 1779 until 1785 he lived in Italy, and works painted during this period include David and Goliath (1781; copy of a painting by Guido Cagnacci) and Moses Giving the Law (1785; both Madrid, Real Acad. S Fernando, Mus.).
