(2) Rembrandt Bugatti
(b Milan, 16 Oct 1884 or 1885; d Paris, 8 Jan 1916). Sculptor and draughtsman, son of (1) Carlo Bugatti. He produced his first works in metal and wood at the age of 15 in his fathers studio. He subsequently studied under Paolo Troubetskoy, from whom he learnt the technique of modelling forms directly using thumbstrokes, as can be seen in The Dromedary (c. 1904; Paris, Lesieutre priv. col., see exh. cat.), which like the majority of his works was cast in bronze using the lost-wax technique.
