(2) Felice Brusasorci

(b Verona, 1539–40; d Verona, Feb 1605). Son of (1) Domenico Brusasorci. He was trained by his father in Verona. Felice may have visited Florence early in his career and was documented there in 1597, but most of his extant work is in Verona. His first known altarpiece, the Virgin and Child Enthroned with Eight Female Saints (dated 1566; Verona, Santa Trinità), has a polished finish that suggests he was influenced by Florentine Mannerists, whose elongated figures and artificial poses had been adopted earlier by Domenico. The altarpiece of the Virgin in Glory with Three Archangels (Verona, S Giorgio Maggiore) was probably executed before 1580; its tonality is lighter and the brushwork freer; the figures are elegantly elongated and fair. This painterly, soft version of Mannerism is evident in the contemporary Annunciation and Four Saints on the organ shutters of the church of the Madonna di Campagna at San Michele Extra, in the province of Verona, and also in the large Finding of Moses (1584; Verona, Castelvecchio). The Flagellation of Christ (c. 1596; San Michele Extra, Madonna di Campagna) has the same physical types and gestures but is transformed by a delicate luminism (Arslan).

Part of the Brusasorci family
