Birmann.

Swiss family of painters, publishers and art dealers. Although the family home was in Basle, both (1) Peter Birmann and his eldest son (2) Samuel Birmann spent part of their careers painting and sketching in and around Rome, principally landscapes in watercolour, bistre and wash. Peter Birmann established his own publishing company in Basle, as did Samuel Birmann; they were also art dealers. Peter Birmann’s younger son Wilhelm Birmann (1794–1830) was also a painter and art dealer.
