Auwera [Auvera].

German family of sculptors, of Flemish origin. Its two outstanding members, (1) Jakob von der Auwera and his eldest son, (2) Johann Wolfgang von der Auwera, carried out much sculptural work in the Franconian region. The latter’s brilliantly complex Rococo church decorations had paramount influence in the development of that style in Würzburg. The second son, Lukas von der Auwera (1710–66), took over the family workshop after their deaths and ran it in partnership with Johann Peter Wagner (see WAGNER, (l)). The youngest son, Johann Michael Josef von der Auwera (1711–58), was also a sculptor, employed in the family workshop.
