(1) Giovan Domenico dAuria
( fl Naples, 1541; d before March 1573). He trained with Annibale Caccavello in the workshop of Giovanni Marigliano and, with Caccavello, became Mariglianos assistant. After leaving the workshop, the two embarked on a lifelong partnership that was a model of cooperation for later sculptors. In 1541 dAuria was paid for work on the Fontana dellOlmo (destr.), Naples, commissioned from Marigliano by the Viceroy of Naples, Pedro de Toledo, and between 1544 and 1545 he is mentioned in connection with payments made to Marigliano for the tombs of members of the Sanseverino di Saponara family in SS Severino e Sossio, Naples. In 1547, with Caccavello, he worked on the tomb of Nicola Antonio Caracciolo, Marchese di Vico, in S Giovanni a Carbonara, Naples, probably executing the statue of the deceased.
