(2) Shingei Geiami
(b 1431; d 1485). Connoisseurcurator and member of the Ami school of ink painting (suibokuga), son of (1) Shinno Noami. He served the eighth shogun, Ashikaga Yoshimasa (143690), as a painter, artistic adviser and curator. At the age of 50 Geiami painted Viewing a Waterfall (hanging scroll, ink and colours on paper, 1480; Tokyo, Nezu A. Mus.) in the angular, formal style of the Chinese Southern Song period (11271279) painter XIA GUI, as a farewell present to his student KENKO SHOKEI.
