In the Studio with Russell Young

Interview with artist Russell Young

artnet Auctions Contemporary Art prints and multiples specialist, Connor Williams, caught up with artist Russell Young (British, b.1960), and was granted rare studio access to discuss the inspiration and working processes that have shaped his internationally acclaimed career. In this compelling interview, Young reveals the significance of color, and the aspirations provided by the glamour of Hollywood and its starlets after a childhood spent in the bleak and violent north of England in the 1960s. After a successful career as a photographer and videographer in the music industry, Young, who has lived in America since the early 1990s, returned to painting and screen printing to create the iconic pop images that he is best known for today. Watch the video to hear the artist talk about his Pig Portraits, The Fight of the Paso Del Mar, and the profound effects of overcoming a recent serious illness, which inspired his Dreamland series.
