artnet is partnering with ArtTable for their artnet Artist Breakfast series, happening monthly. This month’s featured artist is Eleanor Antin (American, b.1935), an acclaimed photographer and author who works in a variety of media, including film, performance, and drawing. Antin is a Conceptual artist, whose art questions the nature of gender, race, age, and culture. The artist is frequently featured in her own work, often taking on alternate, theatrical personas as part of her exploration of the relationship between the past and present. Antin received a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship in 1997, and has had numerous exhibitions around the world, including at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, the Whitney Museum, and The Museum of Modern Art in New York. Antin lives and works in Southern California where she taught at the University of California in Irvine, and then at the University of California in San Diego, where she is currently professor emeritus.
