Galerie Valentin is pleased to show, starting October 19th, more then twenty new works on panel of the
artist Guylaine Beauchemin who, according to the art critic and writer Robert Bernier (Parcours
magazine, Fall 2013) « during the course of the last twenty years, has demonstrated in her work the
constant and ever improving quality of her pictorial approach, with her most recent paintings being
undoubtedly her most accomplished… In this latest series, she candidly and courageously leaps into
quasi-monochrome surfaces having sometimes a single stroke as her only bastion. A mark, which at
times feels hesitant and that along the way evolves into a delicate motif, tender, and light. Its fragility is
palpable. Then slowly, color returned in moderation, free of its enticing appeal. The line has matured into
a motif and slowly this volume is now becoming more dominant, forming the beginnings of a creative
continuity, foretelling new victories in a sea of doubt.
Guylaine was born in 1961 in Montreal. In 1984, she graduated from the Université de Montréal with a
Bachelor of Arts and Science. At the beginning of the 1990s, after having worked for several years in the
film industry, Guylaine decided to devote her time to painting and in 1994 began participating in group
and solo exhibitions.
This artist has been showing her work at the Galerie Valentin since 1996.
