THE STAY ZAZA ART HOUSE AND SOCIAL GALLERY PRESENTS BLINK, CURATED BY TURNER CARROLL GALLERY AND ART ADVISORS, SANTA FE
Artists Featured Include Kate Petley, Ann Weiner, Seth Koen, Alan Rath, Squeak Carnwath, Jennifer Joseph
The Stay ZaZa Art House and Social Gallery continues to be an event space where creative dreams and possibilities are endless with guests able to entertain amidst works of art presented ZaZa-style in this unique and creative extension of the hotel.
Continuing their partnership into 2012, Hotel ZaZa has announced its sixth collaboration with Turner Carroll Gallery and Art Advisors to bring the next show to the Stay ZaZa Art House & Social Gallery. The new show entitled Blink features artworks by internationally acclaimed artists whose works address transitions of perception occurring in minute changes in time.
“With the success of our partnership with Turner Carroll, we are excited to see what Blink brings in 2012,” said Benji Homsey, President of Z Resorts Management and Development, LLC. “The Stay ZaZa Art House & Social Gallery has many uses, but hosting curated exhibitions by national artists definitely aligns with our vision for this creative extension to the hotel. We are surrounded by a creative community as neighbors of the Dallas Arts District. This is Hotel ZaZa’s opportunity to increase our presence in the visual arts scene.”
Two landmark works in the exhibition are Neo-Watcher IV by Alan Rath, and Invictus by Ann Weiner. Neo-Watcher IV is a sculptural video, featuring eyes that awaken upon detecting motion, and proceed to scan the room. Rath’s video works have been exhibited at major museums throughout the world, including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Wexner Art Center; Museum of Contemporary Art in Mexico City; Monterrey Museum of Art; Cabanas in Guadalajara; the Tang Museum; Institute of Contemporary Art, Taipei; Site Santa Fe; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Academie der Kunst, Berlin; Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea, Ferrara, Italy; and Whitney Museum of American Art, to name a few. He has also received a Guggenheim Fellowship as well as an NEA grant.
Invictus, by Ann Weiner, is a lenticular work, meaning that the image changes as the viewer moves from one side to the other. In this case, the images shift between electric blue butterflies and individual letters, which comprise the word “Invictus.” The work is based upon the powerful poem Invictus by William Ernest Henley. Invictus is nine feet in diameter and commands a stunning presence as it shifts perspective and image from second to second.
Petley, Koen, Joseph, and Carnwath are all accomplished artists as well. Most notably, Carnwath has been honored with both a retrospective and a monograph in the past few years, as well as inclusion in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others. Abstract paintings and sculptural objects by these three significant artists will be included in the exhibition.
The Stay ZaZa Art House & Social Gallery will be open to the public Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Tuesday through Thursday from 11 to 6. For private showings by appointment, or for more information and images, please contact Lizzie Herbert at the Turner Carroll Gallery at 214-912-7143 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
