SABINE HORNIG: Transparent Things
Entitled Transparent Things, Sabine Hornig's new exhibition consists of three related sculptures and new photographs on paper. As in the artist's earlier photographic work, a doubling of layers and perspectives is evident as Hornig experiments with materials; for example, the use of see-through fabric brings unique dimensions of transparency and tactile substance into the photographic and sculptural experience. Freestanding objects invite the viewer into a dialog about space and time, reality and representation.
Born in Germany in 1964, Hornig's recent solo presentations include Sabine Hornig – DURCHS FENSTER, Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, Germany (2011-12), Sabine Hornig: Der dunkle und der helle Raum, Kunstverein Schwäbisch Hall, Germany (2012), Sabine Hornig: Fensterbilder, Kunstverein Schwäbisch Hall, Germany (2012), and Fenster an der Karl-Marx-Allee, a site-specific installation at Deutsche Bundesbank in Berlin, Germany (2011-12).
DIRK STEWEN: Carpets and Couplets
In Carpets and Couplets, Dirk Stewen’s third solo exhibition with the gallery, the artist combines his own photography with drawings, found text, and sculptural elements. The compositions that result are exquisite explorations of both the patterns and repetitions in the world around us, and also the ineffable, transitory nature of being.
Living and working in Hamburg, Germany, Stewen (b. 1972) is presently the artist-in-resident at the Chianti Foundation, Marfa, TX, through January 2013. The artist's upcoming exhibitions include ONLY HERE: The Federal Republic of Germany's Contemporary Art Collection Acquisitions from 2007 to 2011, Art and Exhibition Hall of the Federal Republic of Germany, Bonn, January 18 - April 14, 2013 (group) and Love is Colder than Capital. An Exhibition about the value of feelings, Kunsthaus Bregenz, Austria, February 2 – April 14, 2013 (group).
The opening receptions for both exhibitions will take place at the gallery on Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 6 – 8 pm.
