Opening Reception: Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, 6 p.m.—8 p.m.

Susanne Hilberry Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of photographs by Seton Smith. The exhibition will open with a reception for the artist Saturday 7 December from 6 to 8 pm. Smith’s photographs of architectural space and landscape present the viewer with an empty, haunting expanse. The often blurry, off-kilter quality adds a mysterious tone, but the familiarity of subject matter and large scale provide a point of entry. Smith is interested in the image’s possibilities, the symbolism a space can suggest. The exhibition will include 3 different series depicting interior, façade and landscape.

Seton Smith (b. 1955, New Jersey) studied at the Museum School in Boston and Massachusetts College of Art and then later at the New School and NYU. She currently lives and works in New York and Paris. Recent exhibitions include Kiki Smith, Seton Smith, Tony Smith at Bielefeld Kunsthalle, Germany and Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, Vaduz, Liechtenstein and solo exhibitions at Winston Wachter Fine Art, NY, Gain Gallery, Seoul, Korea, Timothy Eaton, Palm Beach, FL. Smith’s work is included in numerous public collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art, International Center of Photography, NY, LA County Museum, Center George Pompidou, Musée d'Art Moderne - Ville de Paris (ARC) and Musee des Beaux Arts de Nantes.
