Biography

Timeline

Kathy Anderson was born on Long Island, NY. She moved with her family to Connecticut in 1973 where she resides today. In addition to being a distinguished floral specialist and jazz pianist, Anderson is an avid gardener. Her passion for gardening is seen in her naturalistic flowers painted with deft brushwork, expressing Nature’s beauty with profound simplicity. "Painting and music are very related passions for me. They are both lifelong studies that are never complete. There is always more to learn and the joy is in the learning."
Anderson’s work is widely held in both corporate and private collections throughout the country. At one time, Kathy had divided her time between her easel painting and creating distinctive murals. She studied mural design in Cornwall, England with Janet Shearer, author of "The Art of Illusion." Her last major mural was featured in the July 2003 issue of American Artist Magazine.
In 2001, she was honored with an invitation from renowned artist Richard Schmid to join his painting group in Putney, Vermont, where she travels to paint each week. Since joining the group, she has concentrated her energy on her easel work with a particular focus on still lifes and gardens. The focus has reinvigorated her work and she has been featured four times as a finalist in International Artist Magazine Competitions receiving an award in 2003, and recently in 2006, she was a finalist for Skitch Henderson’s Irises. She has received numerous other awards including the President’s Award at the National Arts Club in New York City (where she is an Exhibiting Artist Member), and the Hudson Valley Art Association Rayma Spaulding Award in 2004. Her paintings are exhibited nationally – in the 2005 Arts for the Parks show beginning in Jackson Hole, the 2006 and 2007 Telluride Plein Air Festival, and the 2007 Settlers West Mini Show in Tucson. Kathy was featured in the Dec 06/Jan 07 issue of International Artist Magazine. Anderson had a solo exhibition at the National Arts Club in New York City in April 2009 where she is also represented in their permanent collection.
