Opening Reception at Pékin Fine Arts: Sat. Sep 3, 2011, from 2 to 6 pm: ALL WELCOME!
Colin Chinnery's 2nd solo exhibit at Pékin Fine Arts takes the vertical and horizontal as it's starting point, and from there explores various relationships between objects, their material, and their orientation. Movement, sound textures, and stillness are juxtaposed in a series of kinetic sculptures titled Moved where different kinds of metal chains are dragged along the gallery floor. Accompanying them are a series of objects titled Assistants which comprise tightly packed configurations of heads of hair, crammed together to form mountain or tree like structures. On the four walls are groups of long and narrow photographs taken in Beijing titled The Straight and Narrow. Within these photos, Beijing cityscape and urban life are reduced to narrow vertical or horizontal perspectives, forcing a different frame of reference on the familiar.
