About Popes, Velázquez, Bacon, Innocent X
"... Power, Art and Patronage (sponsorship invented by them, The Borgias). This was power with ideology: pragmatic, pure, power that used religion, art and politics as an organism to whom they had to feed and let grow wildly. Power that threw that Italy with faced kingdoms to unite against barbarism and culminated a century after with the Protestant Reformation. Among all the chaos brought by crimes, incest, betrayals and simony, the "first mafia" as he called Puzo and first Don emerged: Alexander VI (Rodrigo Borgia or Borgia): the Renaissance, that extended to the rest of Europe almost a hundred years later ...
I don't know if I'm the only one interested in these contrasts, seen from these territories of nowhere, from this power vacuum and culture void.
But those interested in this old craft that's called painting, should go ahead and follow the example of Maccio -and not my suggestion- when he says, "I do not care about painters, but I do about their craft ... so I look around the table and its brushstrokes "... or something likewise"
