Mixografia® is pleased to present the first ever series of prints by the young British artist Jason Martin on view from March 10 through May 28th in the upstairs gallery. The six prints, each in solid color and printed in high relief echo the hypnotic gestured swirl now widely regarded in his paintings from his first decade of acclaimed practice.
Following the lineage laid down by mid 20th Century Expressionism and coupled with a brace of Minimal Abstraction, his use of thickened layers of oil or acrylic painted at first on reflective stainless steel or aluminum surfaces and more recently on wood panels he often paints in one or two broad-stroke movements until a balance is achieved.
Martin studied at both the Chelsea School of Art and Goldsmiths College in London, and upon graduation his works were immediately exhibited in London's best known galleries and included in "Sensation: Young British Artists from the Saatchi Collection," and the following year the artist was invited to exhibit at the Liverpool Biennial. He was subsequently short-listed for the NatWest Art Prize, the UK's richest art grant award. His career has enjoyed world-wide acclaim and recognition with major museum shows and additional gallery representation throughout Europe, the United States and Mexico.
Please contact the workshop for additional images. Gallery hours are Monday to Friday, 11am until 5pm, and by appointment.
