Lombard Freid Projects is pleased to present Oriental Accident, Mounir Fatmi’s second solo show with the gallery.
Mounir Fatmi believes that Artwork is, like an accident, subject for investigation after its occurrence. Both accidents and artwork can be analyzed once they are made and experienced, with reflection amplifying the power and importance of each.
Oriental Accident gathers a series of works made between 2009-2012 by Fatmi, and never before shown in the United States. All the works are linked through circular imagery and the visual hypnotic traps that keep one from seeing reality. The circle functions as a symbol for the repetitive nature of human history, as a violent past of accidents turn out to be recurring.
This topical exhibition is a key for the events that have changed our perception of the world, particularly the Arab world, over the last 10 years.
Moroccan born Fatmi lives and works in Paris. Recent exhibitions include; 54 Venice Biennia; Architecture Now!; Espace Culturel Le Chaplin, Mantes La Jolie, France; Dublin Contemporary 2011, Dublin, Ireland; his work is collected by international institutions including the Nadour Collection, Kunstpalast Museum, Düsseldorf; The AGO, Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; Mathaf Arab Museum of Modern Art, Doha; The Brooklyn Museum, NY; Fondation Louis Vuitton pour la création, Paris; Fondazione Casa di Rispiarmo, Modena.
