Opening Reception: March 11, 6-8 p.m.
Kiechel Fine Art is proud to announce Shared Histories: Anthony Benton Gude, with works by Thomas Hart Benton and Dale Nichols. The show will run February 14 to April 8 at Kiechel Fine Art, 5733 S. 34th St. Suite 300, in Lincoln.
The exhibition pairs works by Kansas artist Anthony Benton Gude with works by his grandfather, renowned regionalist Thomas Hart Benton, and fellow regionalist painter Dale Nichols. The majority of the Gude’s work was recently exhibited at the Madden Museum of Art in Colorado along with works by Thomas Hart Benton in Latitudes: Light and Lines in the Works of Anthony Benton Gude and Thomas Hart Benton.
Anthony Benton Gude spent his childhood summers in Benton’s studio on Martha’s Vineyard, absorbing much of his influence. His paintings often reflect the relationship between grandson and grandfather both in style and in subject matter. He also shows strong similarities in palette and form with Nebraska regionalist artist, Dale Nichols. The pairings in Shared Histories provide a fascinating perspective on the influence of family history as well as the strength and vibrancy of the regional style.
Gude received formal training at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Art Students League in New York City. His work has been exhibited at the Midwest Museum of Art and the Albrecht-Kemper Museum.
Shared Histories opens Friday, March 11, with a reception from 6-8 p.m. Work by Gude, Benton, and Nichols can be viewed on the Kiechel Fine Art website, www.kiechelart.com.
