Gallery Schlesinger is pleased to announce the opening of an exhibition of recent works by Glenn Goldberg and Stuart Arends entitled:"Okay and the Kid Blocks".
Goldberg, a New York native, who's works have been a familiar part of the New York art scene since the mid 1980's, has installed selections from a new body of work entitled "Okay". These works are small scale, generic figures cast in epoxy resin with unique, colored drawings, embedded inside.
Arends, who lives and works in the High Desert south of Willard, New Mexico, has for over thirty years concentrated on painted objects in a variety of materials based on the simple shape of a cube. He has brought to this exhibition alphabet and picture blocks normally found in the toy boxes of children, which he has modified with oil paint and wax.
Arends and Goldberg have transformed these simple, unpretentious forms into objects that are beautiful, intimate and magical. Both artists have exhibited extensively around the U.S. and Europe, with works in the permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum, and The Brooklyn Museum, in New York, The Albright Knox in Buffalo, The National Gallery and The Corcoran Gallery in D.C., MOCA in Los Angeles, The Museo Cantonale in Lugano, The Shauwerk Sindlefingen Museum in Stuttgart, and the Panza Collection in Milan.
Please join us for a reception celebrating these two artists on Wednesday, April 2nd, from 5:00 to 7.00.
Exhibition dates: April 1, through the 19th.
