DEFINING YOUR PHOTOGRAPHIC IDENTITY!
WORKSHOP BY DIANA LUI
29th, 30th November and 1st December
Open to anyone interested in developping their photography portfolios, new projects, new artistic directions or their culture of the still image.
The general program: As the title of the workshop evokes, this workshop will teach new participants and returning participants to read and interpret images as well as to construct coherent series of images for their own specific projects and needs. Participants will learn how to place their images in a visual context, whether historical or thematic according to two principal axis: the professional world (press, agencies, galleries, book publishing, education, corporate, etc) and their personal/artistic research. An exhaustive list of photographers and artists will be used as visual and conceptual references during the workshop in order to familiarize participants with image analysis and art history.
Shooting during the workshop: For photographers who are interested in taking photos during the workshop, please discuss with Diana Lui on the first evening of the workshop your project idea. Diana will help you to clarify your ideas and advice you on how to approach your subject matter conceptually and technically. During the 2nd and 3rd day of workshop, Diana will look at your photographs taken throughout each day and help you to edit them to make a coherent series. Since this is a weekend workshop, the conditions of shooting will be short and intense so it is advised that you have a very clear idea of what you wish to do and that you have made preparations for your shooting sessions (models, accessories, lights, location, etc.)
For those who have taken workshops with Diana Lui in the past: this workshop will help returning participants to continue to develop further their photographic work based on new images they have been working on for the last few months. Returning and new participants can also bring work that have been “sitting inside boxes” for months or years waiting to be developed or edited. These images will be sorted out and given structure during the workshop.
