"Following the major retrospective it devoted to Marcelle Ferron in 2008, Galerie Simon Blais now presents the exhibition Paper Works: 1945–2000, an opportunity to take a look at the artist’s work from the viewpoint of that medium, which seems to have been a constant in her artistic practice. Bringing together some fifty works painted on paper, cardboard and photographs, and even business forms, the exhibition displays compositions using the same gestures of exposure and concealment as her paintings. Endowed with remarkable formal qualities, these works, complete in their own right—neither studies nor preliminary drawings for her paintings—show lines, marks and traces of gestures that, each in their own particular way, change the rhythm of the drawing. These works entice the eye through the compellingly masterful forms and structures created through the movement of the artist’s hand."
