Helsinki, Finland

Welcome to the opening reception in the presence of the artists, Thursday, September 26, 5-7 pm.

Galerie Forsblom’s exhibition of Terry Winters (b. 1949) presents an oil painting series the artist completed between 2011–2013. Weaving together figurative and abstract elements, the works combine free painterliness with rational structure. Also, the artist’s study of the complexities of space achieves a strong presence within the works.

Several paintings on exhibition refer to Karl Popper’s 1966 essay, "Of Clocks and Clouds," in which Popper divided all observable phenomena into two categories: one comprises mechanisms of precise and determinant function (clocks), while the other operates under indeterminate and extraordinary conditions (clouds). For Winters, painting represents a combination of these two classifications. His works offer an exciting combination of conscious composition and colour fields generated by free brush strokes.
