Secundino Hernández: Kisses & Kisses

A kiss is a touching gesture between souls. The exhibition of Secundino Hernández (b. 1975) at Galerie Forsblom features the artist's new paintings, which seem to kiss each other on their way towards joining spirituality and corporality, and making the material face the incorporeal. At the same time, artist leads his expression towards a more figurative form.

Hernández approaches his works from the premise of figurative expression; his paintings contain references to Francis Picabia and Joan Miró, amongst other surrealists. History, however, appears fragmented, its components concealed or scattered. The spontaneous strokes and expressive color fields are reminiscent of Action Painting. The artist makes visible the various stages of creation in the analytical process, wherein the artist makes visible the various stages of creation: the blend of colors and the cartoon-like borders are outlined not on the palette but rather directly onto the canvass. Radiating fascination with the creative process, Hernández’s work grounds the visual power of painting firmly in the present.
