Helsinki, Finland

Welcome to the opening reception in the presence of the artists,
Thursday, October 18, 5-7 pm.

Nina Roos’s (born 1956) premiere exhibition at Galerie Forsblom showcases her new painting series, “Borders.” The theme of her new oil paintings concerns the conceptual interplay between looking and seeing. A book of Roos’s recent works, Nina Roos, by Parvs Publishing, will be released at the opening.

Roos’s paintings display an interest in both the practice and theory of painting, as well as content-related issues within an exhibition. Colour choice marks the artist’s starting point in forming the content and meaning of each series: colours represent specific portals to certain places. The ethereal atmosphere of this series is materialised through different shades of the colour brown. As opposed to her earlier use of acrylic panels, the displayed works have been painted on canvas which, when layered with oil paint, yields an illusion of depth.
