Kaarina Kaikkonen: Whereabouts
Welcome to the opening reception
in the presence of the artists,
Thursday March 13, 2014, 5-7 pm.
The exhibition of Kaarina Kaikkonen’s (b. 1952) sculptures and installations, which occupy Galerie Forsblom’s grand gallery, celebrate the artist’s three-decade career. In her new works, Kaikkonen again ponders the aspects of the human condition: life’s painful sides, but hope and growth as well. As is characteristic of Kaikkonen, the whole life cycle is discernible within the details of the works.
In Kaarina Kaikkonen’s works, one can find references to current themes of humanity’s place in their own time. Old clothes contain the former user's presence, which wraps around Kaikkonen’s story and places the viewer before something new and unknown, but at the same time exceedingly familiar and intimate.
