In the new exhibition, Africa Inspirations, Cris af Enehielm (born 1954) combines Africa’s exotic colors and visual culture with harmonious atmosphere and mysticism. Her new pastel works, as well as oil and acrylic color paintings, create a lush symphony of color that challenge viewers and free the power of their subconscious mind: wild jungle landscapes and intense colors lead us to hidden places, to the depths of the imagination, awakening a range of emotions and mental states. Essentially, the works’ time and place move expertly between grand spheres of various times and cultures. Stylistic parallels can be discerned between, amongst others, early-1900s post-impressionist trends, such as Fauvism and Pointillism.
In addition to the visual arts, af Enehielm is known in the theater, music and dance scenes. She has worked as a set designer, director, and actor in the traditional sense, as well as in experimental projects. She has produced and participated in various performance collectives that have taken her throughout Europe and all the way to Egypt.
