Welcome to the opening reception
in the presence of the artists,
Thursday, October 24, 5-7 pm.
Carolus Enckell (1945) utilizes the ambiguity of the symbol in his new paintings. The significance of symbols varies from culture to culture. His paintings on exhibition repeat basic geometric patterns, some of which refer superficially to Tantric iconography.
Although the works contain references to Oriental esoterism’s symbology, the paintings also retain their function as simple aesthetic compositions. As a colourist, Enckell maintains a close relationship to colour. To him, form is of the body, whereas colour comprises the soul.
