Tyler's medium of choice is the wax based technique of Encaustic. This little known method of painting, originated by the Greeks, gets its name from the word "enkaustikos" meaning "to heat" or "to burn". The medium is comprised of melted wax mixed with pigment. This method gives the painting a unique look with rich textures. Tyler's encaustic painting on canvas, called "Venus", 84" x 62" is currently in the collection of the Hotel Modera, hanging in the hotel's lobby (which can be seen from the street) in downtown Portland,Oregon on the corner of S. W. 5th and S.W. Clay Streets.

Karl layers different colors of encaustic, manipulating the wax through scraping, using impressions and smoothing techniques, then carving into deep multi-colored layers bringing a richness and complexity to his work. His most recent series resembles impressionistic landscapes. Karl just won a blue ribbon at the Lake Oswego Festival of The Arts in the open exhibit for one of his encaustic landscapes.

Sheary Clough Suiter's unique, imaginative encaustic painting style incorporates both figurative images and abstract design. She paints to express inner feelings and emotions, rather than to portray outer reality in an accurate, rational manner. Sheary is included in the Permanent Collection of the Anchorage, Alaska Museum of Art and has received many awards funded by the Alaska State Council on Arts.
