Wisconsin Artists
Our June 2011 first Friday will be a Peltz Gallery celebration of 150 years of Wisconsin art. We will present on Friday June 3rd, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. small watercolor portraits of past Wisconsin artists. These paintings recently rediscovered by Warrington Colescott were originally commissioned by the Wisconsin academy in Madison for a joint poster by Colescott and John Wilde, for a show of both artists’ works in 1999. We have these portrait gems, Colescott paintings of Ruth Grotenrath and Schomer Lichtner. Colescott portraits of John Wilde, Aaron Bohrod, Edward Steichen, “Robert Von Neumann at Wisconsin Painters and Sculptors, “Georgia O’Keefe leaves Sun Prairie for New York”. Brook Stevens, Al Sessler and Santos Zingale, Madison, “George Catlin at Prairie du Chien (1835),” Ed Lwandowski and more.
We will show eighteen small watercolor portraits in all. On Saturday, June 4th, we will welcome everyone to “Matinee Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Popcorn and soda will be served. Our present show, “Collector’s Choice and Frances Myers, Frank Lloyd Wright Portfolio Acquaint Etchings,” will be held over for the June 3rd, and 4th, events. Warrington Colescott and Frances Myers will be at the gallery on Saturday, June 4th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The small portraits by Warrington will be on view both days.
