From June 5 until July 13, Jill Newhouse Gallery will present an exhibition devoted to the drawings of J.B.C. Corot. The first exhibition of its kind in the United States, Unpublished Drawings (Dessins Inedits), will focus on the full range of works in Corot's career, from the linear, site specific drawings of the Italian period in the 1820's to the late charcoal drawings of the 1860's, when linearity gave way to volumetric form.
Borrowing from private collections in the United States and in Europe, the exhibition will be comprised of more than 30 works and will be accompanied by a digital catalogue with contributions by renowned Corot specialists Martin Dieterle, Claire Lebeau, and Dr. Amy Kurlander, an independent scholar specializing in nineteenth century French art.
Our show will precede the major exhibition of paintings and drawings being organized by the Staatliche Kunsthalle from September 28, 2012 to January 6, 2013.
