The Directors of Marlborough Fine Art are delighted to announce their forthcoming exhibition of paintings and drawings from the Estate of Euan Uglow. It will coincide with the publication by Yale University Press of Euan Uglow: The Complete Paintings by Catherine Lampert and Richard Kendall.
This important catalogue raisonné will provide the scholarly underpinning for a complete and studied presentation of the artist’s oeuvre with over 300 colour illustrations.
Since Euan Uglow’s death there was a major exhibition of his work Controlled Passion at the Abbot Hall in 2003 and more recently Euan Uglow A personal choice by Craigie Aitchison at the Holburne Museum in Bath. These exhibitions have confirmed Euan Uglow’s reputation as one of the major artists of his generation.
This exhibition comprises 19 paintings from the Estate and covers the entire span of the artist’s oeuvre from an Early Nude Study c.1949 to the ‘S’ Picture which he was working on in 2000.
It also includes 44 drawings many of which are studies and working drawings for his most important paintings. The drawings are discussed in a previously unpublished interview between the artist and Andrew Lambirth which gives a fresh insight into the artist’s approach to the medium and its importance in his working process.
There will be a fully illustrated catalogue published for the exhibition.
