Opening Reception: Friday, May 18, 5:00-7:00 pm
James Kelly Contemporary is pleased to present Phantom Limbs, an exhibition of new works by Pard Morrison opening on May 18, 2012. This will be the Colorado Springs based artist’s first show with the gallery.
Morrison continues his interest in geometric abstraction with this new body of work. Using his preferred materials of welded aluminum and baked-on enamel paint, he now is investigating pictorial illusion by emphasizing the three dimensional space of his objects. As in the past works, these new pieces are objects that are installed on the wall, however now they are skewed to emphasize the illusion of existing in deep three-dimensional space. This new direction in the work successfully illustrates the visual tension between object and illusion, as Morrison states “my interest lies in the exploration of this intersection; the intersection of pictorial illusion and the specific object, and the marriage of both.”
Morrison, born in 1975, graduated from Colorado State University and began exhibiting in galleries in 2004. His work has also been included in several museum exhibitions including the Harwood Museum in Taos, the Denver Museum of Contemporary Art and the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center.
Pard Morrison: Phantom Limbs will run from May 18 to June 23, 2012, and will open with a reception for the artist on Friday, May 18, from 5-7pm.
