Gallery Paule Anglim is pleased to announce an exhibition of new paintings by Andrew Masullo, September 3rd through the 27th.

For many years Andrew Masullo has filled his studio home with small abstract oil paintings in a numbered series. On stretched canvas, these brightly-colored simple compositions trigger responses both serious and playful. Using a palette of nearly primary yet not quite pastel hues, he explores permutations of shape and color that provoke thoughtful comparison to great authors of abstract art while retaining the immediacy of a child's drawing.

Writer and curator Michael Duncan writes of Masullo's long term discipline:

With their generally modest scale... and deliberate execution, Masullo's works could be the outcome of discreet scientific experiments performed on unsuspecting lumps and blobs. If so, his lab is dedicated to the tradition of comic abstract painting that includes artists such as Miro, Klee, Arp, Calder, Paul Feeley, Myron Stout, Frederick Hammersley and Thomas Nozkowski. Fine company indeed.
