Andréhn-Schiptjenko at Art Basel Miami Beach
Brad Kahlhamer and Omid Delafrouz
Please join us in our booth C 27 where we will present new works by
Omid Delafrouz and Brad Kahlhamer, putting a specific and
concentrated focus on how these two relate to issues of popular
culture, identity and geographical and psychological
displacement from very different personal vantage points.
Brad Kahlhamer, born 1956 in Tucson Arizona, lives and works in New
York. Kahlhamer is of Native American ancestry and his work reflects
his heritage but is also informed by his interest in contemporary
culture - rock music, comics, urban street culture as well as the
mythology of the American West. Over the course of the past two
decades, Kahlhamer has immersed himself in an artistic practice
spanning painting, drawing, printmaking, sculptural installations
and performance art. His work is currently on view at the The
Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum and will in March 2013 be exhibited
at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
Omid Delafrouz, born 1982 in Tehran, lives and works in Gothenburg,
Sweden. Delafrouz builds his images through a meticulous process.
They are charged with references tied to our age and more
particularly to the young generation that grew up during the last
twenty years of 20th century, in a popular culture obsessed with
images, surface and consumption. Every element in his detailed
images relates to other parts of the work and jointly create layers
of meanings and narratives.
