Kim Schoen: Untitled Sequence (2009)
Light-jet Print Photographs    Feb 3 - Mar 16, 2012

DIANE ROSENSTEIN FINE ART is pleased to announce the exhibition, Kim Schoen, “Untitled Sequence (2009),” a presentation of photographs to be shown at dianerosenstein.com – an alternative exhibition space and virtual gallery based in Los Angeles.

In "Untitled Sequence," Kim Schoen presents photographs of a contorting air puppet in front of a car dealership. The Polyflate product embodies the inflations and deflations of advertising, market fluctuations, and sales techniques. Schoen's interest lies in the mechanics and the latent poetics in contemporary culture. Her photographs and video installations experiment with the rhetorics of display, rendering vulnerable the aggressive monuments and artifacts of commercial culture. Her work mines the anxieties of the individual as it experiences the loss of the relevance of its physical body -- that which is singular and irreplaceable --within a culture of infinite exchangeability.

Kim Schoen is a video artist and photographer who lives and works in Los Angeles. She earned her Masters in Philosophy from the Photography Department at The Royal College of Art, London (2007) and her MFA in Photography from California Institute of the Arts (2005). The winner of the RCA Society Thames & Hudson Art Book Prize (2007), Schoen has exhibited at Norma Mangione Gallery (Turin); Bank, LM Projects (Los Angeles); and The Whitechapel Gallery (London).

Diane Rosenstein is an independent curator and art advisor with a focus on 20th Century & Contemporary Art. Rosenstein co-founded Russell Simpson Company, an influential Modernism gallery on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. Recently, she curated “Farrah Karapetian: Accessory to Protest” at LEADAPRON and “Richard Haines: What I Saw Today,” at Fuller+Roberts Co., both in West Hollywood.

dianerosenstein.com is an alternative exhibition space and virtual gallery based in Los Angeles. “Kim Schoen: Untitled Sequence (2009)” is the second exhibition.
