OPENING RECEPTION THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13, 6-8pm
BDG Project Space is pleased to present SWEEET by Luisa Caldwell, an installation of sweet references and celebrated influences of nature, memories, and candy.
Smile, an upside-down rainbow, is made from candy wrappers and thread. The natural weight of the thread creates the arc as a result of a pipe running the width of the space, above the viewer’s head. It is whimsical yet powerfully visual and seems to catch the ephemeral and transient beauty of a rainbow in nature.
The Fruttini Suite, a series of works on paper of fruits in various containers set on an expanse of white paper, is also on view. The images are tiny, no larger than three inches. Tiny fruits cut out from fruit flavored candy wrappers are juxtaposed with hand-drawn baskets and bowls.
Caldwell will be exhibiting only one fruit sticker and acrylic painting, for which she is known. She has recreated to scale the album cover of New Order’s 1982 album “Power, Corruption & Lies”. Please find complete press release here.
For further information and photographic material please contact Florence Lynch, flynch@bdgny.com or Vanessa Campos, valexandra@bdgny.com. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 am- 6pm.
