David Richard Contemporary will present Painted Black, a group exhibition of paintings, drawings and sculptures in a variety of media, featuring contemporary artwork and works from the 1950s through 1990s where black is the predominant color. The exhibition surveys the use of the color black in gestural and Zen-inspired drawings and paintings by Matsumi Kanemitsu, Minoru Kawabata, Masatoyo Kishi and Robert Motherwell; minimal and reductive meditative works by Maxwell Hendler, Otis Jones, Scott Malbaurn and Beatrice Mandelman; figurative drawings by William Brice and Louis Ribak; serene abstract landscapes by Lisa Cahill, Merion Estes, Gregory Frank Harris and Benjamin Sewell; as well as eye-popping hard-edge, geometric and optical abstractions by Peter Demos, Beverly Fishman, Ward Jackson, Clarence Morgan and Rakuko Naito.
David Richard Contemporary is located in downtown Santa Fe north of the historic plaza. The gallery offers a range of important contemporary art with an emphasis on abstraction in a variety of media by established and emerging American and international contemporary artists, as well as historically significant works from the 1960s through the 1980s.
