Imago Art Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of paintings and works on paper by Cristina Melotti.

Cristina Melotti was born in Milan, into a family of artists and musicians. She developed her artistic sensibilities among the Italian intelligentsia and chose painting as her means of expression. Her artistic search eventually brought her to New York, where she has worked and exhibited for the past fifteen years. She is now bringing her work back to Europe, first with a solo exhibition at Milan’s Triennale in October 2009, and now to London, at the Imago Art Gallery, which has successfully presented the works of several Italian artists and is fast becoming a point of reference for Italian art and culture in the U.K.

“Her works may be simple in appearance, but they are at the same time very complex. Cristina Melotti’s pictorial world is based on an interior reality made up of unconscious energies that are in constant motion. Everything moves in an atmosphere that hangs between dream and memory. (… ) Her images lead us to a dark and impenetrable world, which Melotti accesses by way of her terse and careful formal construction, and she allows the viewer to partake in it.”

A. Soldaini, Prada Foundation

The exhibition is paired with an ambitious charitable project, and will be staged with support from the Italian Cultural Institute and the British Italian Society. Part of all sale proceeds will be donated by the artist and Imago Art Gallery to the Foundation Dancing for the Children, established by Royal Opera House principal ballerina Mara Galeazzi, www.dancingforthechildren.com
