Emotional intensity and a reverence for pure form create a common thread in the art of Eric Boyer and Charlotte Foust. Their work projects an immediacy and depth of feeling that make for an unexpected compatibility, despite the artists’ strikingly different choices of materials, subject matter, and art form.

Boyer employs a distinctly modern medium—steel wire mesh—to execute exquisitely refined male and female torsos whose detailed representation of the human body’s undulating musculature are reminiscent of Roman and Greek sculptures. But unlike his classical counterparts, Boyer adds a more ethereal dimension, playing with light and negative space in such a way that even the shadows cast by the sculptures have a three-dimensional quality. The strong wire mesh becomes as pliable and supple as fabric in his expert hands, as if he were tenderly draping actual nude torsos in a diaphanous veil or a spidery web of silken threads.
